360pi Halloween insights report revealed some interesting findings about costume prices during the month of October.
OTTAWA – Canada – November 4, 2014 — 360pi, the leading provider of competitive price intelligence, today announced results of its price comparison report of Halloween costumes for adults, children and pets for more than 2,100 SKUs available on Amazon.com matched to other mass and specialty retailers, from October 1 to October 27 inclusive.
According to 360pi’s pricing data, while Amazon.com changed costume prices on approximately 15% of the sampled assortment every 1-2 days during this period, specialty retailers, such as Party City, Wholesale Halloween Costumes and Costume Supercenter, made much less frequent price changes.
Additional highlights of the report include:
- Halloween costumes were one of the few categories where Amazon Marketplace sellers’ prices were approximately 10% lower, on average, than Amazon.com during the month of October.¹
- Generic costumes (i.e. princess, pirate) had a wider price range between Amazon.com and specialized retailers when compared to character-based costumes (i.e. Princess Elsa, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). As well, Amazon Marketplace sellers were about 5-10% lower-priced than Amazon.com in the generic costume category.
- Character-based costumes appear to be a more competitive “sub-category” with a narrower price range, most likely because these costumes are more easily compared online.
